Chin resorting to Feng Shui irks members, party leaders

The problems in SUPP, which came to the fore during the run-up to its recent triennial delegates’ conference (TDC), took a new twist yesterday with members criticising their newly-minted president for heaping the blame on Feng Shui.

In local newspapers yesterday, Datuk Seri Peter Chin touched on the possibility of turning to Feng Shui to align the party’s headquarters following a series of setbacks in recent elections and “disharmony” within the party.

He said the Chinese community generally believed in Feng Shui, and in rebuilding the party headquarters after the recent fire, he might consider correcting its Feng Shui. However, his idea did not go down well with some party leaders yesterday. The publicity committee of SUPP Sibu branch yesterday hit out at Chin for trying to put the blame on the party’s problems on Feng Shui.

“We all know that the main problem in SUPP boils down to human error, and some leaders in the central committee, not Feng Shui, should bear the responsibility for what had happened.”The publicity committee said Chin had been the party central’s organising secretary for 16 years. “The weakening strength in his organising capabilities failed to gather force to win in the recent state election.

“Chin has been in the peninsula for too long; he has not taken care of the party’s affairs in Sarawak well.”
The statement claimed that after Chin shifted his talk to Feng Shui yesterday, Sibu branch was flooded with calls which ridiculed his claim. “Many members said they did not believe Chin is really a Feng Shui man; he just wants to shift his leadership responsibility.”The statement asked: “Will such a Feng Shui statement damage the party’s image when a leader shifts its problems to “the wind and the water” elements?

“Will Feng Shui be more important than Chin’s transformation plan to save the party? Will the party’s new hopes lie in the wind and water elements?”

It added that Chin should have plucked up his courage to work on what he had failed to do in his capacity as the party’s organising secretary then, including resolving the alleged irregularities in the branch elections. “Then, in the spirit of democracy and a commitment guarded by the party constitution, correct and transform to rise with new hope. “Don’t turn to Feng Shui and make our party a laughing stock.”
