In feng shui the kitchen is where the heart is and it represents nourishment and prosperity so you have good energy (‘chi) in your kitchen, which is very important. Believers in feng shui feel that how you decorate and design your kitchen can influence the prosperity and health of all living in that home.
The placement of the kitchen is particularly important. It should ideally be at the back of the house and the back or front doors should not open into the kitchen as this affects the ‘chi’ or energy of the kitchen. If the kitchen is in the front of your home and facing a front door this is believed to kill any positive energy from entering into the home and this can bring illness and misfortune to those living in the house. Try hanging some beaded curtains or sheer curtains over the kitchen door.
Some other things to consider when doing your kitchen according to feng shui are: Don’t place the kitchen underneath an upstairs bathroom or facing a toilet as the water and waste will destroy the energy.
Make sure the living room, dining room and kitchen are on the same levels. The shape of the kitchen layout should be rectangular try to avoid having a rounded shaped kitchen. Colors to use in the kitchen according to feng shui are red, yellow and green.
Great Feng Shui Tips For the Kitchen
The kitchen is the most important area of the home when it comes to promoting good health and prosperity. A kitchen with a good feng shui will bring good fortune and good health for the whole family.
The kitchen should be located deep within the house. All sharp objects and the kitchen utensils should be neatly tucked away out of sight in the cabinets, to keep the kitchen uncluttered and airy. When you use your stove, wealth energy is created. Traditional gas stoves are preferred over electronic stoves as they produce real flames. The element of the kitchen is fire.
Feng Shui Kitchen Tips – Oven Placement
A lot of advice is published on the web around where your kitchen should be situated, how a kitchen should be decorated, where your oven should be positioned, the direction your workshops should face and so on. The focal point of the kitchen is the oven which represents fire.
However the majority of the other large items in the kitchen are all water based. Think about the average kitchen. The fire energy from the oven can be overcome with water energy if steps are not taken to provide the oven with some much needed support, leading to jerky and destructive energy in the kitchen and possible fractious relationships between the occupants of the home.
In the same way strength will be gained if the kitchen is in the south east or south areas of the home. If your oven or kitchen is not in one of these directions then you can use colour to provide support. Green is an excellent colour for a kitchen as green represents wood which supports fire whilst taking it’s own energy from water.
Introducing some green kitchen items like utensil jars, biscuit barrels and cups, plates and bowls can work just as well. In our own kitchen which faces south I have a large red and green fruit bowl displayed in one corner to help strengthen the fire element.
If there is really no room between the oven and the sink, fridge or dishwasher then you will need to place the crystals on top of the water based element, or in the case of the sink behind the sink. If you have found this article useful, please check out my other Feng Shui articles on EzineArticles.
