Some government officials have relied largely on the advice of a feng shui master and fortune-teller before making important decisions, China Review magazine reported. The fortune teller, who declined to be identified, made huge sums by "pointing out the right way" for officials, according to the latest edition of the Beijing-based magazine, which did not say where the feng shui master is based. Several years ago a township cadre asked the feng shui master to predict his future.
He told the official that he was very likely to be promoted in three months, which came true. The official was promoted to personnel director of the county. The feng shui master was paid fees ranging from 1,000 yuan (US$147) to 5,000 yuan each time for his services.
